A day trip to Kouřim and its open-air folk museum
A rainy day and a good choice

Before Easter, we decided to take a short trip. It was raining and we did not feel like driving far, so we chose the historic town of Kouřim. It turned out to be a good choice.

Kouřim may not be one of Czechia's best-known destinations, but this quiet little town has a fascinating story.
A visit combines peaceful streets, historic buildings and a chance to discover local traditions.
Allow time for both the town and the open-air museum. Check opening hours and the programme for your chosen date before setting out.
What we did at the museum
Our main destination was Kouřim's open-air museum, which offers special family activities at Easter. We joined traditional egg painting and made pomlázka: braided willow switches associated with spring, vitality and youth.

We also took part in an activity with herbs. The museum's buildings show different aspects of traditional life, including a school, a guest room, a barn and a workshop.
If you enjoy history and culture, or simply want a peaceful, interesting stop on your travels, Kouřim is a lovely choice. It can also make a rewarding stop on a journey to or from Prague.
